Learn About Ford’s Electrified Lineup at Arundel Ford, near Sanford

July 1st, 2022 by

A decade ago, hybrids and EVs occupied only a minute percentage of the automotive landscape. Today, with technology rapidly advancing and adoption expanding, electrified automobility is more practical and accessible than ever. As an industry cornerstone and of the oldest carmakers in existence, Ford welcomes its responsibility to help lead the transition to a more sustainable future.

Ford fields a diverse and growing roster of battery-powered/assisted vehicles offering excellent efficiency, improved performance, decreased ownerships, and reduced emissions. Here’s a quick rundown of Ford’s current electrified lineup.

Ford Hybrids

Ford hybrid models equip an electric motor to assist the engine during high-load situations such as ignition, stop-starting, and low-speed acceleration. The hybrid battery charges via the engine and through regenerative braking—harvesting the energy typically lost when slowing down. The result is reduced lower fuel consumption and smoother performance. Some hybrid models can even operate at low speeds on electric power alone. These Ford models offer hybrid variants:

  • Ford Escape (available for SE and SEL trims; standard on Titanium): 200-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid; EPA-estimated 41 mpg1
  • Ford Explorer (available for Limited and Platinum): 318-horsepower 3.3-liter V-6 hybrid; EPA-est. 27 mpg1
  • Ford F-150 PowerBoost (available for all trims except Tremor and Raptor): 430-horsepower 3.5-liter PowerBoost; EPA-est. 25 mpg1
  • Ford Maverick (standard): 191-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid; EPA-est. 37 mpg1

Ford Plug-in Hybrid

The Ford Escape PHEV leverages a 221-horsepower hybrid powertrain and a larger 14.4-kWh battery pack, requiring external charging for peak performance and efficiency. It boasts an EPA-estimated 105 MPGe2. And with the ability to travel an estimated 37 miles using only electricity, it’s a great way to experience the EV lifestyle without going full-electric.

Ford Electric

By taking gasoline out of the equation, Ford’s fully electric models can lower ownership costs significantly. Electricity is cheaper per mile than gasoline, and EVs are far better at converting their energy source to wheel power than combustion models. And since sealed electric motors don’t need many common services like oil changes and belt replacements, you’ll save on maintenance too. Current Ford EVs include:

    • Ford F-150 Lightning: Powered by a dual-motor electric powertrain, standard range models make 426 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque and can travel an EPA-estimated 230 miles per charge. The extended-range battery boosts horsepower to 563 horsepower and range to 300 miles.

  • Ford Mustang Mach-E: Offered in single-motor real-wheel and dual-motor AWD variants (226–346 horsepower; 317–428 lb-ft) with ranges from 230 to 300 miles.
